This is a great example of a cast iron knuckle duster dating from the United States Civil War. These were moderately popular for close combat during the war, and could easily be made with the heat from a campfire. These are quite smart looking, and probably were hand carved after the original casting. This set was dug up near the Perryville Battlefield campsite in Boyle, Kentucky, which adds a great deal of provenance.
